Mayo practices recognized for quality
Thursday, December 13, 2007
DOVER-FOXCROFT - Physician practices affiliated with Mayo Regional Hospital were recently awarded blue ribbons from the Maine Health Management Coalition's Pathways to Excellence -- Primary Care initiative. By earning the ribbons, the practices have shown a commitment to providing quality healthcare to their patients.

Corinna Family Practice, Dexter Internal Medicine, Dexter Family Practice, Dover-Foxcroft Family Medicine, Guilford Medical Associates, Milo Family Practice Kousaie Family Practice and Fernow Medical Associates all were recognized by MHMC initiative, which is intended to measure, report and improve the quality and value of healthcare in Maine at the primary care level.

Pathways to Excellence publicly reports information on the quality of care at primary care practices and rewards those demonstrating high quality care. PTE measures and awards blue ribbons in three categories. One ribbon is for use of clinical office systems, in which offices are measured on how they use office systems to track information and manage patient care.

Adult physician practices can receive two blue ribbons for the measurement and treatment of diabetes and heart disease (as compared to national guidelines). Pediatric practices are measured on results of children's immunization processes and the treatment of asthma.

The MHMC is a non-profit organization of over 60 members including public, private and non-profit employers, hospitals, health plans and physicians, working together to measure and report on healthcare quality and use that information to drive improvement.
