DOVER-FOXCROFT - Mayo Regional Hospital has been chosen as one of 10 Maine hospitals to receive the Tobacco-Free Gold Star Award. The award was presented to Mayo's Wellness Committee on Nov. 19 for demonstrated leadership toward achieving exemplary tobacco-free standards that protect the health of patients, staff and the community. Two members of the Maine Tobacco-Free Hospital Network, Carol Coles of the Partnership for a Tobacco-Free Maine and Elisa Madore of the American Cancer Society, made the presentation. They cited Mayo for policies that commit the hospital to a smoke-free and tobacco-free campus. Mayo has been smoke-free/tobacco-free since 2003, and tobacco use is prohibited at all times in and on the hospital's property, including in parking lots and at satellite sites. Appropriate signage is posted at key locations, including entrances to the grounds and buildings. Mayo also provides clinical services for any patient needing assistance for nicotine withdrawal services and/or quitting, including evidence-based medications. Tobacco treatment services are available for hospital employees, including counseling and medication therapy. |
