Dover-Foxcroft, Maine - After several years of referring area children and families seeking grief support to groups in Bangor and Waterville, Pine Tree Hospice (PTH) will soon begin holding weekly peer support groups in Dover-Foxcroft. Evergreen, The Pine Tree Hospice Center for Grieving Children and Their Families was created to meet the needs of children who have lost someone close to them in the communities served by PTH and is provided as a free service to local families. Evergreen is sponsored in part by grant funding from the Hospice Education Institute, JTG Foundation, Maine Charity Fund of the Maine Community Foundation, Piscataquis Public Health Council, Maine Youth Suicide Prevention Project and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. These grants covered the expenses for two people, Erin Callaway and Terry Bourassa, to receive specialized training at a week-long workshop at the Center for Grieving Children in Portland and provided funding for PTH to hire a part-time Outreach Coordinator, Martha Flewelling, to assist with the start-up of this new program. Martha is eager and available to speak to community groups (churches, healthcare providers, schools, Kiwanis, Key Clubs, American Legion Posts, etc.) about this new program and can be reached by calling 564-4346.
