A new tobacco cessation program has been launched at Mayo Regional Hospital on a monthly basis. Tom Earley from the Counseling Program and Kim Havea from Cardiopulmonary Services are the presenters, and the program is open to Mayo patients, hospital staff and community members. There is no charge. The next program will be offered Thursday, Feb. 9, from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Piscataquis conference room at Mayo. The workshop has three segments addressing the following questions: How does change happen, what tools can help you stop smoking, and what change plan works best for you. The goal is to have each participant leave the session with a six-week personal smoking cessation plan. The workshop is for smokers who want to stop, and also for non-smokers who want to help a family member or friend to quit. Registration is not required for this free workshop. Future programs are scheduled from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Piscataquis room at Mayo, on the second Thursday of each month, on the following dates: March 9, April 13, May 11, June 8, July 13, Aug. 10, Sept. 14, Oct. 12, Nov. 9 and Dec. 14.
